Yeah, I know I have not posted in what seems like a century and a half, but ’tis the season to be Scorpio. Okay…the scoop on Scorpio: from October 23 – November 22 the sun is in Scorpio making those with this sun placement intense, magnetic, intuitive, and psychologically complex. You never know what these folks are thinking as silence is many times their preferred form of communicating; trusting others is a constant struggle. Scorpios are human lie-detectors–able to read what is not said and how it is said with ease while recording every detail for future reference. Oh…this sign is also associated with death, the colors black and red, and stereotypically, sex.
This inspirational spread I came across on foto decadent from a 2005 issue of Vogue captures Scorpio’s essence quite breathtakingly. The photographs are mysterious, sexy, dark–Scorpio to the core. I love how they are simultaneously sinful and glamorous. It was really hard to choose only five eight photos to post when the entire spread consists of 24 that all awaken my inner Scorpio moon. Anywho…hope this serves as inspiration to your inner Scorpio.

The sun enters Libra today, so happy birthday to all the Libras out there! On a good day this sign is graceful and impeccably dressed, on a bad one, vain or superficial. These pictures from a German Vogue editorial from the nineties capture the spirit of Libra, especially the first one!

The following is a list of style descriptions that are synonymous with your zodiac sign. I compiled this list from descriptions used in various looks in the past few issues of People Style Watch, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire. This list is intended to be a style resource–when looking in these magazines in the future, hopefully it is easier to recognize which styles are targeted towards your sign’s sense of style.

*In compiling the Astrological Style Thesaurus, I was amused at how many descriptions had “-chic” attached to the end of some stylish adjective–I didn’t even bother including all of these “chic” descriptions as many of them would be unnecessary repeats.
The style forecast for the fall 2009 season is partly practical with a sense of power–an intersection of 1940s wearable elegance and 1980s bold cuts and colors. Where the early 40s were a time of scarcity and conservation, the 80s were a time of fun, rebellion. To the untrained eye these two decades are seemingly juxtaposed, though they share a commonality: the bold shoulder. Some of our prayers to never see this style again have gone unanswered and, like all things in fashion, this shape has returned–with a bang! To gain access to fall 2009 (which officially begins tomorrow) accentuated shoulders are simply a must.
A fun way to express this trend astrologically, is to explore the concepts of masculine and feminine. Feminine/Masculine The 40s celebrated femininity with wide shoulders, accentuating the waist and exuding a classic elegance. The 80s shoulder had a more masculine vibe–bold, powerful, sharp. Each of the twelve zodiac signs has a masculine or feminine polarity; Water and Earth signs are generally regarded as feminine, whereas Air and Fire are masculine (though in terms of style, Air sign Libra is more feminine because of her Venus influence). For 2009, the shoulder is updated by a fusion of the two styles. A t-shape (broad shoulders and slim bottom) or feminine-chic styles belted at the natural waist are both stylish options to this new shape. Here are several looks from a Vogue Paris August 2009 editorial showcasing some inspirational looks from leading runway designers reminiscent of 40s and 80s style. Seamlessly integrate the bold shoulder into your wardrobe by identifying your sign’s polarity and finding inspiration below.

Audrey Hepburn, as Holly Golightly in the cinematic interpretaion of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the iconic minimalist glamor she exuded continues to impact fashion almost fifty years later. Several of her Arian traits helped shape her into the portrait of classic elegance many astrological signs continue to replicate.
She was forward-looking, head-strong, and had a “my way or the highway” attitude in choosing Givenchy to style her now iconic wardrobe over Oscar-winning costume designer for the film, Edith Head, a Scorpio. With his modern approach to design, Hubert de Givenchy perfectly captured and emulated Audrey Hepburn’s strong Aries nature and helped to portray her as glamorous, modern, sleek–Aries at its most chic.
True to her Aries form, she began a trend that has spanned several decades and helped to solidify the Little Black Dress, something we all have hanging in our closets, as a classic wardrobe staple. Following, are some of the signs who have jumped on the timelessly chic bandwagon and recreated this iconic Aries style.
 The original, Aries Audrey Hepburn
 Taurus, Lily Allen
Chanel’s new ad campaign, featuring Taurus Lily Allen, certainly drew inspiration from Breakfast at Tiffany’s style, though more feminine adornments set this one apart.
 Gemini, Natalie Portman
In the November 2006 issue for Harper’s Bazaar, Gemini Natalie Portman donned the original Givenchy from the movie, which later sold for $920,000 at a Christie’s auction.
 Cancer, Anna Friel
Anna Friel, Cancer, posed for Vanity Fair online to promote the upcoming theatre adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany’s in London, in which she will star as Holly Golightly.
 Sagittarius, Tyra Banks
In 2007, Sagittarius Tyra Banks also posed for Vanity Fair, channeling Audrey Hepburn’s iconic style.
 Pisces, Jennifer Love Hewitt
Pisces, Jennifer Love Hewitt celebrated her 30th birthday reinterpreting the film’s opening scene outside Tiffany’s–on Rodeo Drive, not Fifth Avenue.
Keys to the look:
Aries style is about sleek, minimal glamor. Opt for a form-fitting dress in a simple, yet structured design and top it off with pearls, oversized black shades, and a sleek up-do finished with a headband. Pastry optional, though I would recommend two or three…just to make sure the desired look comes across
Ask any successful designer, stylist, or fashionista and they will tell quickly tell you that one key to great style is inspiration. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the garbage truck rolling by at seven in the morning, George Castanza–anything can be an inspiration to your wardrobe and the way you get dressed in the morning. As tempting as it may seem, try to avoid looking like that sandwich, pile of garbage, or loser that may have sparked your initial creativity. The key is to capture the feelings, textures, and moods your inspiration provides and translate it in a wearable way that is current and true to your astrological sense of style.
I cannot look through a magazine or blog without being inspired by the way so many spreads and pictures emulate a stylistic quality of a certain astrological sign; my computer is filled with pictures and I now have to find another source to stash my ever-growing magazine collection, as there is no more room under my queen-sized bed on stilts. I thought I would put some of my inspirational style pictures to use and periodically share them with you all as I develop them into coherent collections and themes. In the spirit of Virgo, this collection of editorials emulates a simple, polished, feminine elegance Virgo wears so well.
